Animal Of The Day-Hedgehog
Hello and welcome back to The Hang Out. Today is another Animal Of The Day and today's animal is the cute, yet not easy to pet, Hedgehog! The Hedgehog is a spiny little animal with about 3,000 to 6,000 spines on it's back. It has a furry belly that is one of the only places that you can pet. There are 16 species of hedgehogs. Hedgehogs are nocturnalcreatures, and they hibernate during the winter in cold locations. They burrow in a small whole on the ground until the winter is over. The Hedgehog mother can be pregnant for about four weeks. Hedgehogs can have 4-7 babies. They make their nest out of dried leaves and grass. Their diet is worms, snails, slugs, beetles, eggs, bees, wasps, and sometimes even poisonous snakes. They have an immunity to the toxins so that they can eat wasps, bees, and poisonous snakes but they can not take a direct bite from a poisonous snake. When endangered the Hedgehog curls up into a ball and points it's spines upward. They live in Europe, Asia, Africa, and they where imported to North America. It is common to find an albino hedgehog. The albinos spines are white and it's eyes are pink.
France has been one of the world's foremost powers since the latter half of the 17th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries, France built one of the largest colonial empires of the time, stretching across West Africa and Southeast Asia, prominently influencing the cultures and politics of the regions. France is bordered by Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Andorra, and Spain. Due to its overseas departments, France also shares land borders with Brazil and Suriname (bordering French Guiana) , and the Netherlands Antilles (bordering Saint-Martin). France is also linked to the United Kingdom by the Channel Tunnel, which passes underneath the English Channel. The name “France” comes from Latin Francia, which literally means “land of the Franks” or “Frankland”. There are various theories as to the origin of the name of the Franks. One is that it is derived from the Proto-Germanic word frankon which translates as javelin or lance as the throwing axe of the Franks was known as a francisca.
