Welcome back. Today on The Hang Out, The Animal Of The Day is the Liger. The Liger is a mixture of a lion and a tiger. It is the cross between a male lion and a female tiger. A liger looks like a lion with faded stripes. A similar species is the Tigon which is the cross between a female lion and male tiger. Ligers enjoy swimming, just as Tigers. Ligers have a tiger-like striping pattern on a lion-like tawny background. In addition they may inherit rose like markings from the lion parent (lion cubs are rosetted and some adults retain faint markings). These markings may be black, dark brown or sandy. The background color may be correspondingly tawny, sandy or golden. In common with tigers, their underparts are pale. The actual pattern and color depends on which subspecies the parents were and on the way in which the genes interact in the offspring. There is no scientific name assigned to this animal because of it’s human assisted ancestry. On a typical day a Liger will devour 20lb of meat, usually beef or chicken, and is capable of eating 100lb at a single setting. A male liger may have a leonine mane, but this is much more modest than on the lion and many male ligers have little or no main at all.

Animal Of The Day-Hedgehog
Hello and welcome back to The Hang Out. Today is another Animal Of The Day and today's animal is the cute, yet not easy to pet, Hedgehog! The Hedgehog is a spiny little animal with about 3,000 to 6,000 spines on it's back. It has a furry belly that is one of the only places that you can pet. There are 16 species of hedgehogs. Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures, and they hibernate during the winter in cold locations. They burrow in a small whole on the ground until the winter is over. The Hedgehog mother can be pregnant for about four weeks. Hedgehogs can have 4-7 babies. They make their nest out of dried leaves and grass. Their diet is worms, snails, slugs, beetles, eggs, bees, wasps, and sometimes even poisonous snakes. They have an immunity to the toxins so that they can eat wasps, bees, and poisonous snakes but they can not take a direct bite from a poisonous snake. When endangered the Hedgehog curls up into a ball and points it's spines upward. They live in Europe, Asia, Africa, and they where imported to North America. It is common to find an albino hedgehog. The albinos spines are white and it's eyes are pink.

Animal Of The Day-Portuguese Man-Of-War
Hello again, I will be listing pictures of animals and their description every day. Today I'm showing you a picture of a jellyfish called the Portuguese Man-Of-War. It is a beautiful animal, yet it is extremely dangerous. It's stings are very painful. The Man-o'-War eats small fish that swim near its stingers. The fish is almost instantly paralyzed and that's when the jellyfish uses it's stingers to bring the fish to it's mouth. The stingers, even when broken off the jellyfish, can submit a powerful sting that can kill small children and the elderly. It is also sometimes called the blue bottle because, well it looks like a floating blue bottle. It's body is about 3 to 12 inches long (9-30cm.) The Portuguese Man-of-War floats by the sack that actually emits its own gas. These jellyfish are found in warm waters in the Atlantic ocean. Well that concludes my first ever Animal Of The, Day so come back soon.
